Twitter has rolled out a new feature called "Moments." There is a tab which retrieves the Buzz worthy news in one place. It is a last desperate attempt to make the app easier to use at a time of change leadership, plummeting share prices, and stagnant user growth.
This is an effort by Twitter to attract new waves of temporary social media users, The Verge points out. Moments will be available for Android, iOS and the web. You can click on a collection of tweets that you can swipe through your phone, retweet, and favorite, whatever. Stories are divided into categories, like News, Entertainment, Sports etc.
There's also a new "follow" button, which is useful during events like the Super Bowl or Academy Awards. Follow an event, and the best tweets from these events show up in your timeline. Twitter is partnering with media companies like Entertainment Weekly, Vogue, and MLB. The Washington Post has announced its commitment to Moments, as well. There are lots of full-screen graphics, GIF, and Vines, too.
Twitter had a rough go of it lately. Its share prices reportedly dropped this year by over 18 percent, and newly minted CEO Jack Dorsey takes the lead at a point where Instagram has 80 million more users than Twitter. Twitter is over nine years old eternity in social media time so hopefully Moments provides ease of use and innovation that are needed to rope in new users and advertisers.
