Mastercard is working on a new application that provides added security for online purchases. But rather than simply requires a password, the application will offer to confirm the identification with selfies.
The application coming this summer for phones, tablets, and personal computers, and will be available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark, the BBC reports. MasterCard has been testing these features since last summer.
With selfie checks, users will have to blink there eyes to the camera to prevent spoofing the system with a photo. Otherwise, users will be able to control themselves with fingerprints, through systems such as Apple's Touch ID. Mastercard said that the transfer of data will be in a way that can not be stolen or used by fraudsters.
In most cases, it is not necessary to have any additional authentication, simply inserting the details of the credit card are sufficient. But sometimes, you may be prompted for a password when Mastercard suspected fraudulent transaction. the Mastercard users who have installed the application receives a notification asking them to pose for the camera or fingerprint scan.
The idea is to create a more convenient system for identity verification, allowing the credit card companies to prevent the feudal transactions often. At present, the cost of fraud in general are given to traders in the form of high transaction costs, so the new system could perhaps be better to reduce these costs.
