Sony has announced the Xperia Z5 smartphone at IFA 2015 alongside two other models, the Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium. Here's what you need to know about the UK Xperia Z5 release date, price, specs and features that are new.
"Smartphones are part of people’s lives" said Hiroki Totoki, President and CEO at Sony Mobile Communications. "Since users already create, share and enjoy most of their content on smartphones– that is we've set out to bring Sony's latest innovations in camera, design and display to ensure the Xperia Z5 series is the best possible lifestyle and entertainment platform."
Sony Xperia Z5 release date and price
You've only got a month to wait for the Sony Xperia Z5 as it will arrive in October – an exact release date is still to be confirmed.
Sony has only said that the 'pricing will reflect the premium quality of the smartphone' which is pretty vague. However, we can expect it to sell for a amount that is similar previous flagship Xperia Z phones around £550.
Sony Xperia Z5 specs and features that are new
You'll notice that the design of the Xperia Z5 is a little different with the frosted glass rear cover but more importantly the new flat and rectangular power button. We prefer the look of the old iconic round one but this change is due to the addition of a fingerprint scanner. Sony admits that it's late to the ongoing party on this but claims it's the best.
The processor inside the Z5 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. That's the same as the Z3+ (the Z4 in Japan) which was something of a filler device until the Z5 launched.
As well as the fingerprint scanner, another key feature that is new the upgraded camera which is the first change in this department since the Xperia Z1. It's now 23Mp (up from 21Mp) and Sony claims it has the autofocus that is fastest at 0.03 seconds, x5 Clear Image zoom and the best low light performance.
The phone is(up that is still waterproof IP68) and will be available in for colour options: white, graphite black, gold and green. A feature that is remaining which some other rivals have taken away, is a Micro-SD card slot which can take up to 200GB.
